The Society, founded in 1886, was formed to collect and preserve artifacts that reflect over three hundred years of Suffolk County history. Displays highlight the maritime and Native American past of the area. The Weathervane Gift Shop offers a large selection of books, maps, gifts, cards, and geneological supplies.
Hallockville Museum Farm

The historic Hallock Homestead is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and features a farmer's workshop, a traditional Long Island barn, and a farmhouse (c. 1880). The museum holds crafts workshops during the summer.
Polish Immigrant Museum

Exhibits include family histories, a reproduction of a peasant cottage and information on Polish immigration dating back to 1880.
Railroad Museum of Long Island

The Riverhead Restoration site of the Railroad Museum of Long Island is the home of former LIRR steamer Engine #39, a G5s ten wheeler that was built in 1929. The museum also holds bi-level Passenger Coach #200, built in 1932. The admission fee is good for admission to both the Riverhead and Greenport railroad museums.

Displays at the Aquarium Preview Center include twelve fresh and saltwater tanks depicting Long Island's ecology, a 22 foot tank for rehabilitating turtles, a jellyfish tank and a 16 pound lobster.
